Hello Soccer Families!

If you have already signed up for tryouts, see you soon! Please have your child wear their jersey if they have one, so we can keep track of players using their number

It is time for us to begin gauging an interest in competitive, traveling soccer for the 2018/2019 season! Please read this email carefully as there are many important details.

In an effort to plan accordingly for the next soccer season, which runs August through July, we are requiring players who have an interest in playing competitive, traveling soccer in the fall and/or spring to attend at least one (1) tryout session. Players may register for up to two (2) sessions if they wish, allowing them two opportunities to demonstrate their skills. However, at this point, we do plan to limit each tryout session to only 30 players, therefore, it is important to sign up early.

We have divided tryouts based on birth year – please sign up for the appropriate session when registering. Dividing the sessions based on birth year allows players to be evaluated among their peers, allowing for a more accurate evaluation. Included in this email is a link to Sign-up Genius to register your player for a tryout session.

Players who are interested in year-round soccer programming must attend at least one tryout session. Once tryouts are completed, MASA will evaluate the interest level at each age group and form teams for the entire 2018/2019 season. Players who are interested in playing only in the fall or spring are still required to attend a tryout session. Tryouts will not be held in the winter to reform teams for spring of 2019. Players could potentially have a different team in the fall and spring, as some players only play soccer in the fall or spring. Once teams are formed, you will be notified by MASA of your team placement and who your coaches will be for the entire soccer year. At that time, MASA will also set a final commitment date (late July or early August) for players to decide if they are going to play competitive, traveling soccer in the 2018/2019 year. Please consider scheduling conflicts such as other sports, co-curricular activities, and family vacations when making a decision to play on a competitive team. Teams are formed under the assumption players will be at almost all practices and games, and could have a limited number of substitutes in an effort to allow players more playing time in games. To help you form an educated decision about traveling, competitive soccer, listed below is a general timeline for the season:

***All tryouts will be held at the MASA fields, located between the Menomonie Middle School and Oaklawn Elementary School on 21st Street.

Fall 2018 Practices and Games:

Mid August through mid October

Spring 2019 Practices and Games:

April through mid July

Disclaimer: Attending a tryout session does not guarantee a spot on a competitive, traveling team for any of the following reasons: lack of interest at age group, skill level of player(s) at group, lack of coaches, etc.

If a player is unable to attend any of the available tryout sessions, please contact me, Ben Buehler, at [email protected] or (715) 790-8586, to discuss your player’s situation. Please note, we strongly encourage families to do their best to get a player to one of the scheduled tryout sessions. This will allow the board ample time to examine the results and compile teams for the 2018/2019 season.
